Glowworm Caves are located on the western shore of Lake Te Anau. The excursion departure point is 15mins drive from Beechwood Lodge.

The Maori name "Te Anau" means 'cave with swirling water'. It was this translation that led to the rediscovery of the Glowworm Caves in 1948.

Guided tour begins with a 30mins boat ride across Lake Te Anau on board a luxury catamaran, The Luminosa. Round trip visit: 2hrs 30mins.

The Luminosa catamaran has outside decks and full facilities. The 30 minutes journey one-way takes in the scenic wonders of the Fiordland National Park landscape. The Luminosa takes you to the Glowworm Caves visitor's centre called, The Cavern House.

At the visitor's centre you will be
met by the guides and greeted
with complimentary refreshments
and a movie presentation on the
life-cycle of the Glowworm.

The guide accompanys groups
of 6 people. All the walkways
have hand-rails and low-lighting
is present throughout the caves.

Within the caves, the guide assists you into a small boat like vessel, a punt, which the guide steers silently through the caves.

The Cavern House features natural history displays and modern facilities. After visiting the caves, if you wish, explore the lakeshore nature walk.
